Hackitz has been online for more than twenty years. The site changed a great deal over that time; the curiosity behind it never did. Here is the arc.
How it started — computer repair & support
Hackitz began as a personal computer repair and technology site — a place to share fixes, troubleshooting steps and the kind of practical help people needed to keep their machines running. Tech support and repair were the foundation, and that hands-on, fix-it-yourself spirit runs through everything since.
HTPC & Windows customization
Next came home-theatre PCs and Windows customization: building media centers, creating Windows Media Center themes, Rainmeter skins and desktop tweaks. It was a period of making the machine look and work exactly the way you wanted it to.
Mobile & Xperia development
As smartphones took over, the focus shifted to mobile. This was the Sony Xperia era — custom ROMs and firmware for devices like the Xperia X10, T and ZL, removing carrier bloatware and getting more out of the hardware than it shipped with.
Android & browser projects
From modding came building. Android apps, carrier setup guides, and small browser extensions to smooth out everyday tasks — the beginning of making tools rather than just tweaking them.
Home servers & self-hosting
The interest turned to owning your own infrastructure: OpenMediaVault, Docker, private network storage and self-hosted services. Keeping your data and your media on hardware you control, without depending on someone else’s cloud.
HackitzLabs
HackitzLabs is the current chapter: practical software built with the same curiosity that started it all. Useful apps, self-hosting companions and honest guides — fairly priced, no subscriptions, no ads, no nagging.
